AIS Alumni Photos

Photo blog of alumni from the American International School (AIS) in Israel. The initial focus of this page was photos of and from members of the class of 1988, but we've expanded following the 2006 AIS Grand Reunion. Maintained by Daniel Hocutt, AIS class of 1988.

Skiing in the Prenj Mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Christine Z. sent this photo along for posting. She writes, "I've attached a picture of myself from last spring at the start of a 2 day tour skiing & camping trip in the Prenj Mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Yes, we pitched our (summer) tents on the snow.... (Should anybody ever want to experience real adventure--mountain biking, hiking or tour skiing, BiH is the place to go. The people are friendly, the countryside is stunning, the country hasn't yet been discovered by mass tourism and prices are very reasonable. If anyone is interested, I'm more than happy to provide travel tips. Or visit www.greenvisions.ba.)"

Yearbook 1987

Adam K. and I spent our last year as yearbook co-editors in 1987. That's Rhonda I. (Rahonda J. we called her, but I don't know why) on the right, our copy editor and erstwhile expert in a certain secret martial art: Rhon-Jhitsu.

Week Without Walls 1988: Rapelling

Danit N., David F., and Dan H. holding their ropes and looking suave in their cool safety gear.

Burger Ranch at Sharon Circle

No reminiscences of AIS would be complete without a nod to Sharon Circle, so here's the first. On an unsual night when I actually ventured out (to take photos for yearbook, of course), I took this shot. That's Billy D., Brent H., David E., and Greg I. I can't tell whose back is to the camera.

"The Mouse that Roared" 1985

Pilphered from the yearbook collection many years ago, a photo from "The Mouse that Roared," the last high school play directed by Elaine Trudeau (I think) during the 1984-5 school year. I didn't write notes on this one, but I recognize Miko and myself. I think that's Tony R. and Wendy Z. with us.

Hockey Marathons

A couple of Hockey Marathon shots to remind us that we were not always as out-of-shape and decrepit as we've become. Or maybe I should speak only for myself!

Captains and co-captains of HM 1988 with organizers. Top to bottom, left to right are Elise, Seth, Afsaneh, Sheila, Miko, Mr. DeSebastian, Joanne, Matt, Kris, Jodi, and Daniel.

And from HM 1986, Carla W. in goal, Gonen officiating, and holding back are an unrecognized blue plater, Katrina E. (I think), and Sue J. Fighting for the unseen ball are Manuela O. and Titilia T.

Graduation Rehearsal 1988

Adam K. sent me this photos years ago from our class of 1988 graduation rehearsal session. Makes me think of Timbuk3 and our "future so bright..."

Above are Steve A. and Brian G. in the foreground. Also visible, from left to right, are Daniel H., Richard W., Dan H., Anders K., David H., Tali K., and Kris C.

And here's Eduardo H. in the foreground, with several others visible left and right.

Opposite Sex Day 1986

That's me in the skirt and Amy Z. as the Hassid. I was just telling my wife last night that skirts must be comfortable. A premonition of scanning this photo? Or just repressed sexual expression?

A Canberra Gathering (from Heather)

This photo was submitted by Heather B. "Here are Alopi (Stacie's partner), Stacie, and their daughter Mina-Siale, and then me, my husband Martin, and our son Logan. This picture was taken the first week of this year in Canberra, Australia when the Bakers were visiting Heather's parents." Thanks for submitting!

A Dinner among Friends

About a month ago, Adam K. and Fernando P. (with his lovely wife and their 9-year-old son) met in Rome for dinner. Fernando sent along this photo to post. As Fernando points out, "We both look like we've had too much to drink, even though it was before we even had dinner. It's too bad that's the only photo we took that night." And about Fernando's odd ceiling-kicking abilities, Adam writes, "To answer the obvious question, yes, he can still kick the ceiling, but buggered his knee up playing basketball or something in college, so takes it a bit easy these days with that particular shenanigan."

Additional Photos of Fiji (from Ferndando)

Fernando included these additional photos of Fiji. It warms my heart to see him again after all these years, especially the one with his tongue sticking out.

Is it only my faulty memory, or did Fiji pull that face frequently? In the background I believe you can see either Michele d'A. or Nick K. and Sergio.

And I don't think I remembered him smoking - maybe he didn't at school - but this shot is priceless.

The Nahariyya Bus Gang with Fiji (from Fernando)

Fernando sent this series of photos to share with AIS alumni. They include photos of the Fiji we all knew back then. Great to see the gang, and especially Fiji.

I recognize some of the older folks in the group shots, but need help naming the younger ones.

In the back are Daphne v.d.O, Titilia and Fiji T., Nick K., Maythee U., and Fernando P. I also recognize Nick's sister and Fernando's sister, along with Zorba and Patricia. A recent comment notes that "Patrick is standing to the left of Fernando and Sally Rassac is in the front." Tanya (K.) C. notes that "Ena M. (from Denmark) is between and slightly in front of Nick K. and Maythee U." I don't recognize most of the other folks. Feel free to offer comments to name additional people.
